WHY BUY FROM ME?

Why you should definitely buy something from me

Buying a piece of hand-made glass is a vote to keep an ancient skill alive. Glass courses, and the industry in general is under threat. Several glass courses have already closed, meaning that the opportunity to learn glass-blowing is becoming increasingly difficult. I am a member of Heritage Crafts, an organisation which is the national charity for traditional heritage crafts.

Although it is a very energy-intensive process, I like to think that my work will be treasured and enjoyed for many years, which compensates for that high energy use. There are many single-use products that are made from glass, such as food jars or wine bottles. That’s a sh*t load of energy used to make something that at best, gets melted down again. What a shocker! The glass I use is already 100% recycled, it’s actually waste glass from the Waterford Crystal factory (during manufacture, there is an amount of waste glass created by the process which they don’t want to re-melt, but it’s perfect for smaller studios to use) so it is a really high quality lead crystal.

I try wherever possible to support local and independent businesses, making ethical and sustainable choices wherever possible, to minimise waste and pollution.

I don’t have my own studio, so I hire a studio on a daily basis to make work. It is open to the public, so you can come along and watch me work if you’re interested. Just drop me a line to find out when I’m next working.

“It was wonderful to hear Louisa talking about her work, how she explores and plays with the properties of glass. Allowing the forms to move and flow, resulting in beautifully tactile and organic shapes. Her use of colour is both joyful and elegant, enhanced by the cast of light. More simply put, her work is a treat to hold, use and enjoy on a daily basis.” Kim
